Harare, Zimbabwe December 17, 2014—Recently, Results Leadership Group (RLG) kicked off a contract to provide training, facilitation, technical assistance, and Results Scorecard software in the implementation of a Results-Based Accountability™ (RBA) Initiative for the Higherlife Foundation.
The purpose of the project is for the Higherlife Foundation (HLF) to identify and create:
- Population results and indicators for which HLF strategies and programs are aligned
- Clear and concise performance measures for each program and staff person
- Recommendations for data collection tools and sources for chosen measures
- A well-organized Results Scorecard design that will allow any staff person to track their contributions and provide a simple and aggregate way for HLF to share progress with the Board of Directors and external partners
Reflecting on the new initiative, RLG Partner and lead trainer Deitre Epps stated that “This work will position Higherlife Foundation to lead by example in demonstrating a new approach to measurable improvements for children, families and communities with their local partners in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Lesotho, and Burundi.”
In addition to Results Scorecard software and RBA training, Epps is also providing executive coaching for leadership development to HLF, which has proven to be a critical element in the successful implementation of RBA (and other decision-making methods) in the social sector. Commitment to a clear leadership development strategy is a crucial factor in both the success and economic stability of private and public sector organizations. According to a research-synthesis report released by the Center for Creative leadership, “Numerous in-depth studies have reached the same conclusion: Organizations that invest in leadership development perform better than those that don’t,” especially in the case of challenging times. This is why the support RLG provides typically is multidimensional— complementary strategies delivered over time to achieve sustained impact.
Tsitsi Masiyiwa, Executive Chairman of HLF notes, “Our goal is for Higherlife Foundation to become a model “results-focused” and “data-driven” organization for government and NGOS, not only in Africa, but globally.”
The Higherlife Foundation encompasses five distinct organizations—Christian Community Partnership Trust, National Healthcare Trust Zimbabwe, Capernaum Trust International, Capernaum Trust, and Joshua Nkomo Scholarship Fund—which work together to support orphaned and vulnerable children through financial assistance, faith-based programs, educational support and training, health crises response, advocacy, and a number of other initiatives.
Results Leadership Group (RLG) is the world’s leading Results-Based Accountability resource and developers of the Results Scorecard budgeting, management, and program evaluation software. RLG Consultants, educators, coaches, and facilitators develop the capacity of government and non-profit organizations to produce measurable results for clients and communities. Such capacity is fostered both through the development of individual competencies and by structuring institutions to support results-based decision making.
Last month, 17 staff from Higherlife Foundation, attended the world’s first Results-Based Accountability Africa Summit, held in Johannesburg South Africa and hosted by Results Leadership Group, United Way South Africa, and Accelerate Performance. The event brought together more RBA experts and more than 200 participants representing more than 10 different countries to discuss how RBA is bringing measureable improvement to communities around the world.
